Look in your closet: A good way to find your signature style is by assessing your wardrobe. This could reveal your personal color palette as well as your favorite patterns and textures.

Decorate with nature: Gather your finishing accents outdoors — flowering branches and clusters of single-stem flowers are good bets. In Susan’s kitchen, a single palm frond in a simple white bowl creates an almost sculptural display (below).

•Use at least three small pots, each with a thick rim around the top edge to stop the wire from slipping. We've planted ours with hyacinths. When these die at the end of spring, they can be replaced by other seasonal blooms.
•Drill holes in bricks (not cement, which will crumble), using an electrical drill with a masonry bit. Push a Rawlplug into each hole, then hang the trellis using sturdy screws.

•Plant up your pots, then wind garden wire twice around each pot, making sure the ends are long enough to wind on to the trellis. Twist them together tightly to secure.

Hand-made cards are expensive, but easy to make yourself.

How to:
• Fold a piece of fabric in half and cut half an egg shape, using the fabric fold as the centre line.
• Unfold and glue to a folded piece of A4 card
• Pierce holes either side of the egg, thread ribbon through and tie a central bow
• For the feather card, glue a feather and bow to the card
• For the chick card, twist a pipe cleaner into shape, glue the ends to the card and cover with a strip of crepe paper 'grass'

Simple touches for a seasonal look
Bringing an Easter look to your table doesn't take much effort. If you have suitable tableware in pretty pastel colours, so much the better, but plain white crockery will work well, too. You could layer up pieces from two different crockery sets to create a colour theme. Contrast coloured tableware with fresh white linen, or use coloured napkins with plain china. Here, white napkins are secured with pink bobble trim (available from haberdashery and department stores). This adds a touch of fun and echoes the colours of some of the decorative eggs on the table. As a gift for guests, little pots filled with mini eggs on each plate setting look fabulous. Trim these with blue gingham ribbon and use wider gingham ribbon to decorate each chair. Blue, white and pink painted eggs in egg boxes continue the colour theme along the middle of the table. Spiky foliage in a vase adds a modern twist.

Red expresses excitement, high energy, warmth and vibrancy. It is the strongest of all colours. It is a very stimulating and active colour. It would be a beautiful colour for an entrance hall or lobby. Warm reds are also inviting and intimate in the dining room.

Green represents nature, growth and relaxation. It is a soothing colour and may remind us of rebirth. Green goes with almost any colour and in its darker and more neutralized shades can be used as a neutral. A green kitchen feels fresh and clean.

Pink hints at trustworthiness, happiness, youth and sweetness. Pink is a very complementary colour to skin tones and is an ideal colour for the bath room.

Blue reflects a calm, restful and relaxing environment. Blue is one of the most popular colours and tints of blue will make a room appear more spacious.

Yellow represents happiness and optimism, however vivid and light tints can appear even brighter and more glaring than white. Yellow is an excellent colour to use in a room that does not receive any natural daylight or in a dark hallway.

Brown conveys contentment and comfort. It is a subtle and masculine colour and would be a perfect choice for a library.

Purple is a regal colour, which can denote nobility, dignity and luxury. Deep purple or plum is a wonderful colour to have in a guest room to make your visitors feel like they are getting the "royal treatment."

Orange symbolizes spirit, warmth, comfort and action. Orange would be pleasing in a family room, but, an extremely vivid shade of orange can be tiring when used over a large surface.

Taupe communicates conservative thinking and is considered a very sophisticated colour. A taupe living room will appear rich and glowing.

White implies virtue, purity, cleanliness, spaciousness and innocence. White rooms tend to be very dramatic and create a feeling of quiet luxury. A master bedroom with large amounts of white could become your oasis from a hectic world.

Fashionable Floor Coverings

From your first print, stamp a gentle curve and then two branches coming from it. Use a smaller stamp in the same design at the ends of the branches to taper off.

Indians are immensely proud of their homes, they are a temple for mind and body. As homemakers they do not hesitate to combine diverse textures, prints and colours to achieve an individual style. Indians have the concept of five elements - air, water, fire, earth and space. These were woven into the fabric of Indian society before the arrival of the Argans around 1500BC. Indian belief has always been dedicated to the worship of nature. Western belief has the first four elements but space is a more abstract principle. Space is the vast vacuum beyond ordinary perception and symbolises the huge power of an unseen force.
Even today the five elements are celebrated in the decorative schemes of many Indian homes.

Air - vaya is symbolised by white and silver, with long light fabrics that dance in the breeze. It signified the importance of fresh air.

Water - jala is symbolised by the colour blue. Blues give a cool calm influence. The concept of exotic bathing was made into a fine art by Indian maharajas, who had their gold and silver bath tubs filled with warm scented water strewn with rose petals.
Blue is the colour of Krishna and the monsoon.

Fire - agni is the principle deity worshipped by ancient Hindus, colours used are orange, red and gold and the sun symbol. Bedrooms are governed by Agni god of fire. This colour red adds a patina of passion to many bedrooms in India.
Red is the colour of Kama, the god of love and passion and invites romance.

Earth - bhoomi is symbolised with earthy colours and textures. In many Indian homes the lines between inside and out are blurred.

Space - akash is represented by the expansion of visual space. Walls punctuated by small windows and niches, filigree screens used to separate areas.

The Lake Palace at Udaipur is a 250 years old marble palace built on 4 acres of natural rock in Lake Pichola. It gives an impression of floating on the placid water of the lake.

The hotel is reached by boat from the shores of Lake Pichola.

The palace was built in 1746 by Maharana Jagat Singh, successor to the royal dynasty of Mewar. It has the beautiful Aravalli mountains on one side and palaces on the other side of the lake.

White walls

It seems Denmark is the white wall capital of the world. Is it because everyone rents there so no one is allowed to paint? I am not a huge fan of white walls....until I look at photos such as these from the site Bolig Magasinet, and then I want to strip and paint my hardwood floors and all the walls white.
